Job Description

A client of aikan's within the manufacturing Sector is seeking to recruit a suitably competent Chief Operations Officer

 

Role:                                   Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Reports to:                         Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location:                             Head Office 

 

Job purpose/role

The Primary role of the COO is routinely one of operations management responsible for the design, operation and improvement of the systems that create and deliver the company’s products and or services. (Make, Move, Provide) The COO shall have the primary responsibility of leading the day-to-day operations of the business across all markets in accordance with the strategic plan and operating and capital budgets. The main objective is to assist and align with the implementation of the vision and make the CEO and the team to be successful in that endeavor. The focus of this role will be the make, move and provide aspect of the business. All supply chain, manufacturing, logistics and distribution including selling and marketing. It will require working in collaboration with shared services as in Finance, HR, legal and compliance plus R&D that will continue to report to the CEO in the early stages of the business transition.

 

Key responsibilities: 

 

  1. Work in close partnership with the CEO to provide over all leadership to ensure delivery on the set   annual plans and ensure sustained growth;
  2. Develop, in collaboration with the CEO and the  Finance Director long term business strategies and annual operating plans;
  3. Establish policies and practices that promote company culture; ethical practices and ensure compliance ;
  4. Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth as well as design and implement an appropriate organization structure;
  5. Keep the CEO fully informed in a timely and candid manner of the conduct of the day to day operations of the business including  all material deviations from the goals and or objectives and policies established by the Board;
  6. Ensure development of health and safety practices for the business and oversee compliance of all processes to the relevant legislations;
  7. Attend meetings of the Board and its committees and present the information necessary or relevant to the Board or such committee for discharging its duties whenever required;
  8. Assess and manage the principal risks of the business within operations (proposals ,projectsand staffing);
  9. Develop and manage human capital programs related to staff performance in the operations function and all other related activities including staff development and succession planning;
  10. Interact and engage with local authorities  across markets on relevant issues; and
  11. Perform other functions related to the office of the COO as may be requested by the CEO

Key Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or other Engineering related degree.
  2. Master’s or Post Graduate in business or finance  and or marketing is preferred;
  3. A minimum of 10 years of experience of increasing responsibility in manufacturing or fast moving  consumer goods (FMCG) industries, including 5 years at top management level;

  2. Solid understanding of technical processes in  manufacturing and FMCG industries;

  5. Demonstrated leadership skills and experience with building and managing multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse teams. Track record in effective coaching and mentoring;
  6. Excellent  interpersonal,  influencing and  networking skills,  with  the ability  to  develop  and establish relationships within the organization and with stakeholders;
  7. Self-confidence and a reputation  for high personal and honesty and integrity;
  8. A fair understanding of the legal framework in Uganda and within the EAC region; and
  9. Excellent communication and presentation skills in both written and oral English
  10. A team player and a facilitator sensitive to cultural and social nuances and doing business  in the various market
